GAIL (India) Limited is the largest state-owned natural gas processing and distribution company in India. It is headquartered in New Delhi. GAIL was founded in August 1984. It is a Maharatna company and is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange. GAIL is India’s flagship natural gas company and operates in four business segments namely gas trading, gas transportation, LPG & petrochemicals, city gas distribution and exploration & production. GAIL’s primary business is natural gas marketing and it is the largest supplier of natural gas in India. It owns and operates the country’s largest natural gas pipeline network with over 11,000 kilometers of pipelines criss-crossing the country. GAIL also has a strong presence in the LPG & petrochemicals business. It is the largest producer of LPG in India and has a 25% share in the country’s LPG market. GAIL is also the largest producer of polymer grade propylene and butene-1 in India. The company has a network of over 1,400 CNG stations across the country. GAIL is also engaged in the business of city gas distribution and has a presence in eight states. It has a customer base of over 1.8 million. GAIL is also involved in the business of exploration and production of oil and gas. It has a portfolio of eight oil and gas blocks in India and abroad. GAIL is also setting up a 2,640 kilometer long pipeline from Dahej in Gujarat to Bhilwara in Rajasthan. The company has a workforce of over 16,000 employees. GAIL has a strong focus on safety and environment. It has been awarded the coveted Golden Peacock Award for Occupational Health & Safety.
